Shreyas Swaminathan is an interdisciplinary artist from Bangalore, India, who now lives in Vancouver, Canada. His early aesthetic evolved during his years at the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Painting) degree. To complement his skills further in visual art with an emphasis on installation art and new media, Shreyas has recently successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts for Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver.
Whenever an idea or concept seizes his imagination, his impulse from an early age has been to convert it into physical form through paintings, sketches and sculptures. Over the years, he has learned that the process of creating art involves unfolding innumerable layers of meaning -- a process that requires time, effort and dedication as there is more to art than what is immediately visible at the first instance. This is reflected in all of his works.
His experimental practice extends to drawing, screen printing, etching, wood-cut, using media such as UV paints, light/temperature/water-sensitive paints, using numerous kinds of flexible materials for moulding and casting, hand and digitally (3D print, CNC, laser cut) carved sculptures, as well as new media and technology, and sound design.
